Athgarvan GAA & LGFA Social Media Policy
Purpose
The purpose of this Social Media Policy is to provide clear guidance to all members, players,
coaches, parents, and supporters of Athgarvan GAA and LGFA on the appropriate use of social
media in order to protect the reputation of the club, safeguard all participants, and promote the
values of respect, inclusivity, and community spirit.
Scope
This policy applies to all members, players, coaches, officials, parents, volunteers, and supporters
of Athgarvan GAA and LGFA, both in an official and personal capacity, when engaging on social
media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp, and others.
Guidelines for Social Media Use
All members are expected to:
• Be respectful, honest, and considerate in all communications.
• Protect the privacy and dignity of all players, especially underage members.
• Avoid posting photos, videos, or personal details of underage players without parental/guardian
consent.
• Promote positive news, achievements, and events related to the club.
• Think before posting – once shared online, it can be permanent.
Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviour will not be tolerated:
• Offensive, abusive, discriminatory, or defamatory comments.
• Bullying, harassment, or intimidation of any individual.
• Sharing false or misleading information about the club or its members.
• Posting content that could damage the reputation of Athgarvan GAA or LGFA.
LGFA-Specific Guidelines
In addition to the above, members of the LGFA section are reminded to champion the promotion of
women’s sport, respect the rights of all female players, and ensure that images, videos, and stories
reflect the inclusive and supportive environment that Athgarvan LGFA provides.
Enforcement
Breaches of this policy may result in disciplinary action, which could include a warning, suspension,
or removal from club activities. Serious cases may be referred to the relevant governing body for
further action.
Support & Reporting
If you see or experience inappropriate social media activity related to the club, please report it to the
Club PRO or Children’s Officer immediately.
