Athgarvan GAA are going to take part in newbridge-parade-266x180the Newbridge St. Patrick’s Day parade. We are meeting in the Tesco Car park at 11:15am. Parade starts at 12 noon.
 Our creative directors have suggested a ‘Braveheart’ theme for this years parade.The link with the movie filmed on the Curragh and the club colours makes it ideal.
 All you need are club colours (if you have club jerseys please wear them). Anyone wishing to wear blue and white face paint please do- see images below for inspiration. Can children bring along any plastic swords and shields, fancy dress with a Braveheart theme etc that they may have.
Please join us at Tesco Car Park from 11:15 am on Friday morning for this years parade, We have two trophies to showcase so come along for a fun event for the club.

To mark this occasioAthgarvan GAA 125 Years Engraved Medaln we are having matches for all ages on

Sunday the 5th October at 2pm.

Every child will receive a medal with 125 years engraved on the back as a keepsake.

There will be refreshments after. We ask everyone to come along past and present.

on 23rd October at 2pm.

This is a great evenings fun. Jim Bolger Ireland’s top race horsetrainer will present the u 14s their Jerseys on the night. Lots of raffle prizes on offer also.

Currently, the GAA Club uses land leased from the Department of Defence but the site is too small and not capable of being developed in any way.  Furthermore, Athgarvan lacks a community facility that could be used to accommodate meetings and indoor social, sport and recreation activities.

If the GAA club was to acquire suitable lands on which to construct playing pitches and changing rooms, it would be only too willing to work with the Council and the wider community to provide such a facility.

The walk, which is only 1.8km in length, should be good fun and it will raise some badly needed funds for the club.

Sponsorship cards are available from all club coaches and officers – €2 per line. Please ask your sponsors to estimate how long it will take you to do the walk. There will be prizes for those who guess the length of time it will take the first adult and the first under 15 to complete the course.

Meet at the main entrance to Punchestown at 6.00pm – Friday, 10 June.

By the way, it would be great if the young people could wear the club jersey.

This shield semi final was played on Sunday in Rathangan under a very warm April sun and the
drying conditions ensured a fast game played with a high level of skill from both sides. The Gaels
started the game with one intention and that was to qualify for the final, they went on the attack
from the start and soon rattled off four quick points before Rathangan got on the score board.

The Gaels forwards had their shooting boots on, as they hit 2-8 in the first half and had their
opponents trailing by 7 points at half time. In fairness to Rathangan they never gave up and at one
point closed the gap to 4 points but the Gaels were not for surrendering and drove on again to win
by eight points and to book their place in the final. This was a great team effort, however it would be
remiss not to mention the Cúchulainn Gaels net minder Dara Gilbert who made two point blank saves
at crucial stages of the game.

Cúchulainn Gaels go on to play Rheban in the Shield final, date and venue to be confirmed.

Best for Rathangan were Stefan Lawler and Daniel Mulpeter.
