Under age Training is back this Saturday 24th March at 10:30 am. All ages from u5 boys and girls welcome. Looking forward to new and returning children joining the club for a new season.
We are holding a Child Protection course this Monday 12 Feb 2018 in the Athgarvan Inn at 7 o’clock. This course is for all volunteers in our club, and would-be volunteers too ! As a club, we strive to reach the highest standards in all of our activities, and this training is part of our goal this year to improve in every area of our coaching. There will be tea & sandwiches available as well, as we appreciate it is an early kick-off time. Looking forward to seeing a great turnout there.
On 11 December 2017 the remaining provisions of the Children First Act commenced in full. Most notably for the GAA our immediate requirements include adopting all provisions in relation to mandatory reporting of child abuse, ensuring the appointment of what can be termed key child safeguarding officers which include Designated Liaison Persons and Children’s Officers at Club and County level and also appointing the Association’s Mandated Person, we must also provide certain child safeguarding training programmes and commence the process to agree a Child Safeguarding Statement for all Clubs.
In accordance with vetting legislation, also referred to in the Children First Guidance, all persons who have a regulated role with children, (i.e. coaches, referees, Bord na nÓg members, parents who regularly assist in the GAA) must be vetted under the Vetting Act by 1 January 2018. Indeed, according to GAA rules and Children First they should have been vetted by now. There are no exceptions to this directive. If a person, who has not been vetted, continues to act in any of the above roles after 1st January 2018 they will be breaking the law as may their Club for offering or facilitating such a role. Vetting regulations stipulate that a vetting applicant must be at least 16 yrs. of age when submitting their application.
Welcome to the second Athgarvan GAA fun run. Taking place around the Curragh plains, this event kicks off from Athgarvan GAA, Sunday February 11th at 11am. Register online at www.popupraces.ie or from 9:30am on the morning of the race.
There will be a medal for all finishers along with post race refreshments in the club, and the event is open to runners & walkers of all abilities.
What a win !! Our u-17′s battled back to win their league final against Milltown in Hawkfield today on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-9. We did it the hard way ! Leading 1-5 to 0-5 at half-time, Milltown came more into the game in the second half and held a 2 point lead inside the last 5 mins. A well taken goal then put us ahead by a point. An equaliser from Milltown and the game looked to be heading for extra time, but there was still time for an opportunistic Athgarvan goal right at the death and victory was ours ! A massive congratulations to the team and management, on their victory, and hard work. Today again showed the value of battling all the way to the end, a quality these lads have in spades. Commiserations to Milltown who played their part in a great game.
On Tuesday 15th of August, Kildare.Hurling for Cancer Research will take place at 6:30 in St. Conleth’s Park, The event, which has been organised for the sixth year in a row by horseracing legend Jim Bolger and champion jockey Davy Russell, will see a host of Irish hurling and horse racing stars come together for what promises to be, yet another, fantastic evening for everyone involved.

WE DID IT !! What an evening and what a game of football as our lads defeated St. Edwards on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-13. It was a relentless game from the off as both teams gave everything. It would have been easy to panic as St. Edwards reeled in our 5 point lead to hit the front with just minutes remaining, but our boys don’t do panic as they worked their way up the field to engineer a goal with our last attack of the game. There was still time for another point from Edwards to close the gap to 1 and after an another attack was brilliantly defended by our lads, the cup was ours. This made Roy of the Rovers look run of the mill !! Massive congrats to all our players for such a composed, skillful, brave display. Huge thanks to the management for all their hard work and to all parents and supporters for cheering us on throughout. Commiserations to St. Edwards who played their part in a brilliant game.
