Firstly I wish to thank my fellow officers of our club for proposing and electing me as Chairman. I am looking forward to it and working with all members of our club to continue the good work already happening at Athgarvan GAA.
By way of introduction I have recently got involved in the club because two of my children are training at U8 and U6 and hopefully will have a third joining next year. Originally from Letterkenny, Co. Donegal (don’t hold that against me) I have been living in Athgarvan since 2001 having worked in Naas and now in Dublin.
The location of our club is significant, in that it is situated in a thriving and growing area with many young families and in the midst of Scoil Bhride School. There is huge potential for juvenile and adult members.
The future of our club looks bright. Football training is fun and the kids love it. Well attended training each Saturday morning is evidence of this and the recent introduction of Hurling for the U6’s is a progressive step forward. Naturally, the pitch activity is the most important aspect of the club. Great credit is due to all the coaches and mentors for their involvement with the teams at all levels.
There is a dedicated committee working in the background to support club activities. The committee is in the process of redeveloping our website and I would encourage everyone to check it out and keep up to date with everything that’s happening. Articles of interest may be circulated via our text and website. To do this, contact myself or any of the committee members and we will do what we can.
As a club we have a number of challenges facing us as, as well as opportunities, including improvements to the clubhouse, fund raising and planning for the future. With this in mind, we need everyone – past, present and future members, players and parents who are interested in our club to get involved to make things happen for Athgarvan GAA club.
The committee welcomes support, ideas and input from everyone. Details of the committee members are available on the website and don’t hesitate to contact me or the club secretary.
